I have always admired Art Noveau. I was a senior in High school when I found a book on Alphonse Mucha and have always been drawn to his style along with the others of that period and the Pre-Raphaelites. I started with a light pencil drawing and added the watercolor before the additional collage of papers and gold-leaf.
In this image I used torn and cut out papers in the same way I did on the first one. I have stated to do some of my portraits with this method, depending on the client.
I can work for hours using a variety of papers, ribbons, laces and anything that works for the subject and composition. It is fun, relaxing and I forget about everything else.
